報道機関は、政府の宣伝の片棒を担ぐかのように「エコの電気製品に買い替えるとポイントがつく」「エコカーに買い替えると税金が安くなる」などと、毎日「エコ」と叫んでいる。しかし、素人の素朴な疑問として、これらはどうも眉唾のようにも思われる。現在使っているテレビはまだ使えるのに、買い替えると古いテレビは処分することになる。自動車を買い替えると、現在使っている自動車はまだ使えるのに廃車にすることになる。エコカーやエコ家電といっても、それを生産するのにたくさんのエネルギーや石油資源を使ったりする。「電気自動車はCO2を排出しない」とは言っても、充電用の電気を発電するのに大変な化石燃料をつかうだろう。そのように考えてみると、マスコミが「エコ」と叫んでいるのは、大企業の営利活動の支援、政府の景気対策の支援でしかないのではないかという気がしてならないのだが、それを解明するような報道がなされていないのではないか。
